But this does not seem to be the $ $ sudo adduser worker vboxsfĪdduser: The group ''vboxsf' does not exist. The items listed under Files -> +Other Locations -> Networks are:īut when I click on any of these items it says, "Unable to access location" and "Failed to retrieve shared list from server: Invalid argument."Īn instructional video on youtube says that in order to have a shared folder between a ubuntu guest and its host, you need to have a group called "vboxsf" that is generated automatically somehow with VirtualBox. But "VIRTUALBOX (File Sharing)" is repeated twice which suggests to me there might be something wrong that I need to fix. And I think it works because when I launch the guest machine and open the file manager (called "Files"), it shows under "+ Other Locations" a list of several items under "Networks". I use the ubuntu VM to develop our C++ code, all the tools and gcc etc working nicely. If you want to provide that access, you must set up shared folders in your virtual machine app. 1 My setup I have a windows 10 PC and on that I have an ubuntu 18.04 virtualbox (+ guest editions) and its all working well. By default, virtual machines do not have access to files on the host computer or on other virtual machines. I do not have Read-only checked and I do not have Auto-mount checked but I do have Make Permanent checked. You’ll have to set up shared folders in a program like VirtualBox or VMware to share files. There you click on the add folder icon located on the right side of the window and input the Folder Path, Folder Name, and Mount Point, then click OK. I have set a shared folder with the path and the folder name. After installing the software, go to VirtualBox and configure the guest machine by going to Settings > Shared Folders. I do not think the problem is on the host side. Go to Virtualbox settings -> Shared Folder (works for almost all versions of virtual box) and select a folder from Windows. I have a Windows 10 Host computer and a Ubuntu guest.
